ConnectX-7 is the standard server adapter for NDR-generation InfiniBand deployments. Five models sit in one family: single-port cards with OSFP and QSFP112 connectors on the 400G side, and three dual-port variants at 200G — one with hardware encryption, one for an OCP 3.0 slot.
Three things drive the choice: the speed tier on the switch side, the generation of the server’s PCIe slot, and the card’s position relative to the GPUs. Unless all three are verified before ordering, the bandwidth on paper is not what you get in the field.

Connectivity Solutions
From GPU node to leaf switch
Every compute node takes an adapter placed under the same PCIe root as its GPUs. Getting full value from GPUDirect RDMA requires the card to sit under the same socket as the GPU; otherwise traffic detours across the inter-socket link and latency rises.
OSFP or QSFP112?
The same 400G speed comes in two different connectors, and they are not interchangeable. Do not order optics and cables before the card model is settled; we build the order list by verifying card, module and cable together.
Dual port: redundancy or a second fabric
Dual-port 200G models are used either for link redundancy or to separate the compute and storage fabrics. Thanks to VPI, one port can run InfiniBand while the other runs Ethernet/RoCE.
The OCP 3.0 variant
The MCX753436MC-HEAB fits an OCP 3.0 slot rather than a standard PCIe slot. On OCP-equipped servers that frees PCIe slots for GPUs; whether your server model has an OCP slot is verified before ordering.
Features
VPI — two protocols on one card
InfiniBand or Ethernet mode is selected per port. If you deploy InfiniBand today but may move to RoCE later, the adapter investment is protected.
GPUDirect RDMA
Data leaves GPU memory straight for the network, eliminating the host memory copy and CPU involvement. This is the mechanism that cuts gradient synchronisation latency in distributed training.
When do you need the crypto variant?
Hardware encryption matters in multi-tenant environments and for organisations required to encrypt traffic on the wire. Where it is not needed it only adds cost, so it is selected to requirement.
PCIe generation is decisive
Saturating a 400G port requires PCIe 5.0 x16. If your server slot is Gen4 the card works but bandwidth is capped — this is the first item we verify before ordering.
