MTP-12 is the standard building block of data centre backbone cabling: twelve fibers in one cable, terminated at the factory on both ends. It is also the connector that parallel optical modules such as 400G SR4/DR4 plug into directly.
Three things drive the choice: fiber mode (multimode OM3/OM4/OM5 or single mode OS2), connector polish (UPC or APC) and polarity method. All three must match the module and cassette at the other end of the link, which is why we produce the cabling list together with the optics selection.

Connectivity Solutions
Rack-to-rack backbone cabling
A single MTP-12 cable carries 12 fibers, so one run replaces twelve separate duplex cables. Along aisle and inter-rack routes that noticeably reduces cable count and with it cable tray congestion.
Direct connection to a transceiver
Most 400G and 800G parallel optical modules terminate in an MPO/MTP connector, in which case the trunk cable plugs straight into the module with no cassette — fewer patch points and lower loss.
UPC or APC?
Multimode links generally use UPC, single mode links mostly APC; the angled endface of APC noticeably improves return loss. Both ends must share the same polish type — UPC does not mate with APC.

Twelve cables become one
In dense deployments, cable tray congestion and airflow matter as much as performance. A single MTP run removes the volume occupied by twelve individual fiber cables.
Factory terminated and tested
Terminating fiber in the field takes time and makes loss figures unpredictable. Factory-terminated trunk cables arrive with measured insertion loss.
The right length keeps the rack tidy
Excess cable has to be coiled inside the rack, which violates bend radius. We produce the length list per link from the rack layout plan.
