OpenStack HPC

Private cloud HPC infrastructure with OpenStack. Flexible resource management at the IaaS layer, VM-based computing and hybrid HPC architecture.

OpenStack HPC

OpenStack is an open-source IaaS platform that adds cloud flexibility and multi-tenant resource isolation to enterprise HPC infrastructures. Mevasis deploys and manages Nova, Ironic, Neutron and Heat components, optimized for HPC workloads via kolla-ansible container-native deployment — all delivered turnkey. It enables multiple teams and projects to share the same physical infrastructure securely while you retain full data sovereignty.

The platform's self-service API lets users provision isolated virtual clusters on demand, while administrators keep a single operational view of all resources. Combined with Ironic-managed bare metal, OpenStack HPC gives one control plane for VMs and physical nodes.

Key Features

Multi-Tenant Resource Isolation

Each project or team operates in full isolation with its own quota, network segment and RBAC policy. No tenant can observe or consume another tenant's resources. This makes a single physical infrastructure safe to share across many departments.

Hybrid SLURM + OpenStack Scheduling

When SLURM partitions fill up, jobs are automatically migrated to dynamic resources on OpenStack. This hybrid scheduling layer combines bare-metal performance with cloud elasticity. Users keep submitting through SLURM and never notice where their job runs.

Data Sovereignty and Regulatory Compliance

All data remains on the organization's own hardware, so sovereignty is guaranteed by design. A security layer compliant with data protection regulations in healthcare, defense and finance is provided. This makes cloud-like flexibility feasible in regulated environments.

Repeatable Infrastructure (IaC)

Hundreds of nodes are brought up with the same configuration in minutes using Heat Orchestration Templates. Infrastructure is defined as code, versioned and reproducible at any time. This removes the manual effort and drift that plague traditional environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

OpenStack HPC should be chosen when multiple teams or projects need to share compute resources, when cloud-like flexibility must be combined with data sovereignty, and when resource isolation needs to be layered on top of an existing bare-metal infrastructure. Regulated environments requiring VM-based isolation (healthcare, defense, finance) and multi-tenant research environments are also ideal scenarios for OpenStack HPC.

Mevasis deploys OpenStack using OpenStack-Ansible or Kolla-Ansible tools. It optimizes the Nova, Neutron, Cinder and Heat components for HPC workloads; integrates bare-metal nodes into the platform via Ironic; and brings online a hybrid scheduling layer that bridges SLURM and OpenStack. Post-installation managed operations — including platform updates, performance monitoring and capacity planning — are also run by Mevasis.
