SLURM Job Scheduler
SLURM (Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management) installation, configuration and optimization. The most widely deployed HPC scheduler solution.

What Is SLURM?
SLURM (Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management) is the open-source workload manager used by the vast majority of HPC clusters worldwide. Trusted by NASA, CERN and the world's fastest supercomputers, SLURM ensures that multiple users can access shared computing resources fairly and efficiently. Mevasis provides turnkey SLURM installation, configuration and long-term optimization for enterprise and research HPC clusters.
Beyond basic scheduling, SLURM scales from a single workstation to tens of thousands of nodes, which is why it powers most of the world's largest supercomputers. Its plugin architecture lets administrators add custom priorities, GPU accounting and cloud bursting.
Key Features
Resource Management
SLURM manages CPU, memory, GPU and wall-time requests submitted to the queue, then automatically launches each job when a suitable node is available. Backfill scheduling fills unused capacity with shorter jobs, improving utilization. This gives you the highest possible throughput from your hardware.
Fair Scheduling
User- and group-level priority, fairness and quota policies ensure that no single user can monopolize cluster resources. Multifactor priority and fair-share accounting distribute time predictably. This keeps every team productive on a shared cluster.
Account Tracking
SLURM records the resources consumed, wall time and user identity of every job in its accounting database. This data enables accurate cost analysis, project billing and capacity planning. Reports reveal which workloads consume the most compute.
Secure Authentication
MUNGE-based encrypted communication secures the connection between SLURM daemons, while OpenLDAP integration handles user authentication. Cgroup-based resource isolation prevents runaway jobs from impacting neighbors. Together these make the scheduler both secure and reliable.
Frequently Asked Questions
SLURM should be chosen in any environment where multiple users share a common HPC cluster. It is especially valuable for simulation, CFD, FEA or machine-learning workloads where job runtimes range from hours to days; for research and engineering environments that require priority-based queuing and fair resource distribution; and for enterprise setups where licensed software (ANSYS, LS-DYNA, etc.) must be shared in a controlled manner. For a single-user or small-scale cluster (fewer than 8 cores), this overhead may not be necessary — direct SSH access may suffice.
Mevasis provides SLURM installation and configuration independently of hardware delivery: we can integrate a new scheduler into your existing cluster, perform a greenfield installation, or rescue and optimize a broken or outdated SLURM setup. Depending on project scope, we deploy all components — MUNGE authentication, OpenLDAP integration, cgroup-based resource isolation, the GPU gres plugin and automated node health checking — completely. Afterward, our 24/7 HPC maintenance packages keep monitoring and support running continuously.
The cost of SLURM installation and configuration services varies based on cluster size, current infrastructure state and the desired integration scope. We offer a fixed project fee for one-time installations and a monthly retainer model for ongoing maintenance.
